The Portland Community Mental Health Centre was designed to provide safe and comfortable access to mental health services and provide a space for community meetings. Privacy and safety are key design principles, evident in the layout of transparent corridors that allow natural meandering and connection to the external environment.
The qualities of the building reflect the value placed on the delivery of mental heath services by South West Healthcare to the Portland Community. The location of the building is strategic in the development of a heath precinct supporting neighbouring services.
The building features spacious waiting and reception areas, four interview rooms, child and family psychology spaces, staff offices, conference rooms, sensory gardens, and an internal garden courtyard.
The central courtyard anchors the building and provides users a connection with nature. Bespoke carved timber sculptures by Glen Romanis and Mark Trinham sit as central features among the landscape.
